This recent Diesel Sweeties is perhaps the greatest comic I have ever read. I suspect it reveals a greater truth about the cosmos; after all, Johnny Depp has been voted the sexiest man alive, and the more talented contestant won Australian Idol. One could almost forget that most human beings are idiots.
Here are the the details for my next production:
Blue Chair Theatreworks presents
Twelfth Night
by William Shakespeare
"Wit, an't be thy will, put me in good fooling..."
10-13 December 2003, 8pm and 2pm matinee on Sat. 13
Old Council Chambers, Trades Hall Arts, 54 Victoria St. Carlton South
$16, $12 Concession & Union members, $7 Preview (Dec 10)
Book on 9815 2292
Everything to Everyone (the new Barenaked Ladies album) grows on me like an ever-thicker sugar frosting. Further highlights include Maybe Katie, Shopping Take It Outside and Aluminum. This, of course, makes most of the album the highlight, which is as it should be.
Fans of weird with time and around $50 to spare may be interested in Marostica, a living chess game played in Italy for over 400 years and - for the first time ever - in Melbourne tomorrow. If I make it I'll let you know what the fuck goes on.
More new Doctor Who as Scream of the Shalka reaches episode two. More of the fab new Doctor, the monsters knock it up a notch, the military show knowledge of the Doctor, and Derek Jacobi's (yes, I said Derek Jacobi) Master arrives on the scene in somewhat mysterious circumstances. One might think Jamie Oliver was involved, so well has the plot been left to thicken. Bring on part three...
And remember: happiness is to be encouraged wherever it breeds and wherever it dwells. Yes, I'm looking at you.
Any other guy would want to take it outside but I'd
Never even try - who wants to get their lights knocked out?
Any other guy would want to stir it up some but I'd
Rather say goodbye...

Date: 2003-11-23 07:55 pm (UTC)Dr Who...
Good fun. I haven't been able to watch most of the first Doctor's episodes, but this serves to sate my Doctor Who craving a little. And the general mood seems to evoke the third and fourth doctors, which will get no complaint from me...
So how many regenerations is that for the master now? 14? 15?
Re: Dr Who...
Date: 2003-11-22 05:05 pm (UTC)As for the Master, well; we never discovered how many regenerations the Delgado Master had used, but by the time of Deadly Assassin he had none remaining. Ainley's Master was a new body - not even that of a Time Lord - so supposedly he could not regenerate any more. Whatever he did to become the creature in the telemovie allowed him to take over another body, though only in a crude "possessing a corpse" kind of way. Assuming this timeline runs true, then the Master either escaped from the Eye of Harmony to find another body, or - and this is the theory I like - this "new" Master is a previous regeneration. The Master likes to maintain the same look, regardless of his body - look at the similarities he imposed on Tremas' body.
Of course, if he's working for the Time Lords, then perhaps they again made the offer from The Five Doctors, and he's been rescued from the eye and given a "complete new life cycle."
Only time - and the amount of continuity in Shalka - will tell.
(Man, that felt good. I haven't had a continuity discussion for ages...)
Re: the master...
By the time of The Deadly Assassin the master was apparently on his thirteenth regen. Then he used the Keeper of Traken's power to steal a new body. Then he got miniaturised by his own tissue compressor and burnt to a crisp (I think that was a Peter Davidson episode) That was the point in which a fan could fairly assume he was dead, so it was a little irritating to have him re-appear with no explanation (though given his exit, no explanation would have satisfied...)
After that he got turned into some sort of cheetah creature, and after that he was executed by the daleks (???) after which he turned into a slug. It was all a bit stupid really.
Maybe this is an earlier version of the master?

Date: 2003-11-22 04:48 pm (UTC)As for going to NY to become a famous actor, it's certainly not the stupidest idea for my career. I should follow up my idea of doing some more training first though, I feel. Of course, should I make it to the Big Snapple, then those connections will be...well...connected with. ;)
See you in December - or maybe January - we'll have to see how busy you are.
