Up: my Nizlopi CD and Zelda game arrived in today's post, and the Nizlopi CD came in awesome packaging. The Physics department at Melbourne Uni seem keen for me to be their Einstein for the Melbourne Physics Forum. (Nothing concrete yet, the guy hasn't been in to answer my call, but he seemed impressed by my web site. All sounds good.)

Down: venue hunt for Fringe is failing miserably, and online registrations close on Thursday. Everywhere of a reasonable size is booked or too expensive. Anyone with bright ideas please have them today and let me know.

And before I forget, thanks to the parties on the weekend: the sexiest-furry-hat-flaps-wearing bootylicious [livejournal.com profile] givemethegun and, new on my scene, the screaming-metal-rock-soul hottie [livejournal.com profile] helluvatough and attendees for poker and the following late-night drunken Scrabble; Sian (with [livejournal.com profile] boomzilla on backup) for the kids-on-stage prelude to Sunday (directed by one of my previous directors, Robert Coates - Melbourne theatre is a small, small world); [livejournal.com profile] paracelsus and [livejournal.com profile] georginalousise for Sunday night's alcohol and philosophy and Street Fighter. And, of course, the ever dependable [livejournal.com profile] delve for his contant background sexiness, drunkeness and awesomeness.

I think you're thinking of Wesley Anne, which Anna also suggested below. It's a bit far out, but worth checking. So far Leo's had the best idea with Glitch, which I'm following up.

Thanks, I will check it out, though I'm wary - going too far from the Hub is death for small shows. Sounds like a great place though.

i can understand not wanting to roam. how many nights do you want to do? and how long is the show? i may have some ideas.

wes-ann is a converted church unsurprisingly :) the food and bar is in half the space and the performance area is in the other. good food too!
but i think you do have to bump out nightly unfortunately.

Wesley Anne is SUPERB as a venue. Huge stage and area. I'd go every night.

Glitch on St Georges Rd North Fitzroy near the corner of Holden St. Has a mini-theater in the back and a bar at the front. They do theatresports and movie screenings and things.

You're a genius, that's a brilliant idea. Even Nick said so. I've called and emailed them already.

Do they have to be theatres?
What about venues like the Planet on Brunswick St?
I have always found loads of people came to that.

Does this website help at all? http://www.venuesonline.com.au

Good luck!

That's depressing!
I had my first CD launch there, and my last Australian show in June last year as well as countless others inbetween.

How is the music/venue scene there at the moment?
A little birdy who flew into Toronto last week told me Australia sucks full stop at the moment and that his record label has given up trying to find talent there because of the politics, Jet Clones and numerous other reasons.
