Well, it finally happened: a couple of mornings ago, as I was waking, I had a vivid and largely lucid dream in which I was in the new Doctor Who series. As usual for these sorts of dreams, it started out in the real world (with me playing a minor part on an episode and chatting with stars and crew) and then turned into the real thing (with me wandering into the TARDIS with the Doctor and Rose and thwarting an invasion). But these are fever dreams brought on by the illness that is waiting for the new series, so let's move on to the questions that matter to me.

  • Can anyone recommend a good source - preferably with some academic rigor - for explaining the difference between "morals" and "ethics"? I have a vague idea of what the difference really is, and a bias towards the latter, but I've long wanted to read a definitive answer.

  • Where the hell is Weekender held now, and why don't I know anyone else do I think none of my friends are into Brit-pop and Indie?

  • Are you going to be rocked by Doctor Who in 2005? Well, if you're not sure, look at this (RealMedia video).

Dude, I've invited you to a britpop/indie night at the Planet SEVERAL TIMES IF YOU RECALL. And now that night's finished for good. He who hesitates is lost!

I'm sure there are other options if you want to boogie.

Just the once that I recall, and my main memory is of you not having a terribly exciting time at Weekender back when it was at Ninth Ward. But hey, I'm happy to be wrong!

What, has someone scrubbed your brain of the Club UK days?

Yes. I don't want to alarm anyone, but I think it was Mr. Alcohol...

I never really thought of going to Club UK as going to a Britpop/Indie night, after all we were there for the drinking, not the music. But great days, I agree.

I was there for the music! The bloody cheap Breezers were just a pleasant bonus :) On good nights you couldn't get me off the dance floor.

Wait wait wait...cheap breezers? All I remember where the cheap jugs of spirits, specifically drinking a jug of vodka and orange juice through a straw... Oh, and the pints of Dog's Bollocks, of course. Which it's best to forget.

Ethics is a general term for what is often described as the "science (study) of morality".
-- From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics

I think a lot of the problem is in the negative connotations of "morals"/"morality".

This page looks good: http://philosophy.lander.edu/ethics/types.html

Of course you know people into britpop and indie tunes. Is it just that you don't want to go out clubbing with us? *fightin' words*

I'm already being rocked by Dr Who in 2005. Leela is my hero.

I thought you were more into the dance scene?

Dude, glam.

I like a whole bunch of stuff - thought you knew that :)

(oh for the good days of Club UK..)

So if you find a britpopindie night sometime in the week after easter..

I never think of glam as brit-pop. I mean yes, it was largely British and certainly popular at the time, but I'm not thinking Club UK music; I'm thinking Oasis, the Vines, the Doves, the Beatles, Coldplay, Gerry and the Pacemakers...

But I'll let you know if I find something.

Man, I'm into indie.

Next time I can locate Weekender (and I think sometimes it's also upstairs above A Bar Called Barry as well as Laundry, Dream, wherever..) and I'm going, I'll letcha know.

And there's also Flipside on Thursdays at ABCB upstairs.

I've been recommended Flipside, I should check it. Al this discussion has revealed in me a desire to try again to find a club I like before I give up on them altogether, so we'll have to make it happen.
