I had to send this one to my parents; you have no idea how much crap drug reps had sent us over the years (I had a Cardizem book light which was my pride and joy).

I did one year of Med, back at UNSW... Six years later, I was still getting spammed by Medical professional insurance companies. As for direct-targeted thingies... well, I work for a company called Health Research Solutions now... Doctors are probably the most highly direct-marketed profession in existence, apart from perhaps, US politicians.

Ya gotta love it tho... I've not paid for a pen or a post-it note since first year uni. The best freebies I've seen are a Norvasc (anti-hypertensive) coffee plunger and Stilnox (sleeping tablet) moist towelettes in a dispenser. Doesn't make a whit of difference to what I recommend to the patients though.

But of course!

I think Doctors, their employees and families have seen more new and innovative ways to dispense paperclips than anyone in human history. In terms of favourites, I think the Viagra boxer shorts and calculator - featuring a flip-top lid which, when triggered, slowly cause the flat claulator to stand upright - are right up there. Anything that wasn't a pen, paperclip dispenser or notepad pretty much got my attention - umbrellas, soccer balls, small torches...

I miss it. I should ask my Mum to send me a pack of paraphernalia down...

And then there are the "drug lunches" we used to have at the hospital.... hundreds of Schwob's Swiss sandwiches, fresh OJ, and croissants all there so the pharmacy department could listen to them spiel on about a drug that the hospital budget couldn't afford anyway. Catch 22.
