Bats and Spiders and Comics and this is as geeky as it gets around here.

The people at secretspidermanmovie.com have something wrong with their brains. I mean, really. The reason they don't let comic book fans make movies unless they're also movie makers is because people who are this rabid about traditional comic books are insane. These guys want to make the third Spider-Man movie before Hollywood does, because they're "appalled" at the "lowering of standards" that means that Sam Raimi's effort is the best adaptation ever produced. Apparently there are legions of Spider-fans "misinformed" and thinking that Spider-Man has "organic web shooters"...

The story is important. The characters are important. Whether the kid grows web shooters or is some kind of genius who makes devices that turn his blood into webs, the details in a superhero story are impediments which must be overcome by suspension of disbelief fueled by how cool they look or sound. Slavish devotion to the original form of an idea is something only a creator should have. Ideas that do not evolve become extinct or vanish into their own ideological niche.

In much better news, there's now a teaser trailer up for Batman Begins. If there's any superhero comic that I really dig, it's only ever been Batman, and I tell you, I would rather Mr. Bale and Mr. Nolan give me what I just saw than any comic book fan anywhere making The Dark Knight Returns, because they would fuck it up.
